MomShare at Expo Mom! Help Us Share the Gift of Knowledge

Grad-pic-Surigao-3.jpg

What would you do if you had the power to change someone’s life today?

This is what a group of individuals visualized when they started collecting and distributing storybooks, dictionaries, and other school learning materials to the most depressed communities in the country. The group has been reaching out to various communities to achieve their goal of a 100% functionally literate Philppines.

Through a simple idea of humbly starting a book drive for a birthday project in 2009, they have since distributed more than 1,000 storybooks and over 500 dictionaries to schools throughout the country. They travel across the country,  with no funding but the money from their own pockets, to meet with the beneficiaries and immerse themselves in the various  communities, as a way to know and fully  understand the people. They also conduct storytelling and other activities with the children to help them appreciate and encourage in them a love for reading.

How a group of individuals help shape the lives of young  men and women through sharing the gift of knowledge is truly one remarkable feat, considering that all is done out of goodwill. In 2009, they were able to spread out their literacy advocacy to the following beneficiaries: Philippine Institute for the Deaf, three schools in Malita, Davao del Sur; Mongoto Elementary in Benguet, a school in Babuyan Islands, Rizal Elementary in Gubat, Sorsogon; two schools in Pampanga, three schools in Bulacan, one school in Laguna, Casamongan Elementary in Masbate, three schools in Jolo, and the Liangabon Tribal Community in Surigao del Sur.

But their mission does not end with the delivery of books.

Recently, they traveled more than six hours in land and 3 hours in water just to meet the beautiful community of the Manobo Tribe in Liangabon, San Miguel Surigao del Sur. There, children used banana leaves as paper and charcoal as pencil- until help thru generous people came.

Aside from books and dictionaries, DiksyonaryoAtbp also helped raise funds for their brand new tables and chairs and school supplies.
This year, the group will bring help to the children of Mongpong Island in Marinduque and Kiniktal Island in Tawi-Tawi. Diskyonaryo Atbp believe that it doesn’t take so much to give and we can start by helping RAISE LITERACY, ONE CHILD AT A TIME.

YOU have the power to change the lives of children from depressed and remote communities. This project is our chosen MOMSHARE beneficiary for the upcoming EXPO MOM event.
Spread the gift of knowledge and literacy by sharing your old books. please bring them to Expo Mom 2013 on April 6 and 7 at the Rockwell Tent, Makati. We will have a collection area at the entrance tent.  You may also deliver donations to the Mommy Mundo office at 2f Fun Ranch Pasig, on weekdays 9am to 6pm. We will be collecting until April 8.

Led by Monica Javier, Community and Program Engagement Head of Mommy Mundo, and journaling facilitator Nica Cosio, the session will create a safe and nurturing space for moms to pause, reflect, and reconnect with themselves first — so they can show up more grounded at home, at work, and in community.

Aside from the session itself, attendees will be treated to a special journaling package from Pilot Pens Philippines. Thank you, Pilot! 💙
