Real Mom Review: Kindermusik

Everest-laundry-pretend-play.jpg

In this new series, Mommy Mundo asks real moms to share their experience of a particular product or service to give you useful consumer insights. This week’s #RealMomReview comes from mom of one and breastfeeding advocate Ros Padua. She shares her experience of Kindermusik.
Kindermusik is the world’s leading music and movement program for parents and their children, from zero to seven years old. Its mission is to change the country and the world  through the gift of music and learning – one child, one family at a time.

Here is Ros’ review:

How did you find out about Kindermusik?

I initially found out about Kindermusik through the online mommy groups I frequent. I learned more about it through their website and I called in for a free trial class.

In which programs is your child enrolled in?

My daughter, Everest, is currently enrolled in Laugh and Learn for three- to five-year-olds.

Laugh and Learn is a great transition class for children who are preparing to enter preschool. In this Kindermusik level, the children are encouraged to be on the mat on their own. They are able to spread their wings as budding individuals but still get the security of having their parents in sight. They are encouraged to express themselves and be creative. The activities in class also introduce concepts of lining up, taking turns, raising their hands, cooperating with others – all done through music and movement.

When did she start with Kindermusik and how long has she been enrolled in it? How does she find it?

My daughter has been with Kindermusik since she was 11 months old. We have attended Cuddle and Bounce (0 to one-year-old), Sing and Play (one- to two-year-old), Wiggle and Grow (two- to three-year-old), and are enrolled in Laugh and Learn now that she is three years old.

Everest always looks forward to our time in Kindermusik where she can sing, dance, and play with her teachers and other children. She sings the songs and enjoys reading the books we receive as part of our home materials. She loves her teachers and she enjoys the activities. I would even go as far as saying that it is always one of the highlights of our week.

What do you like most about it?

What I like most about Kindermusik is how it has helped our family create lasting memories. Class activities are designed to be bonding moments between parents and children. Teachers always emphasize that the parents are the child’s first teachers and they teach techniques that help us become more effective and intentional parents, with the songs and music as our tools.

The children are also exposed to so many genres of music coming from all parts of the world. We have jazz, country, indigenous, classical, pop – you name it! Musical instruments go above and beyond the usual shakers and drums. At the young age of three, Everest has been able to play with bongos, djembe, slide whistle, resonator bars, guiro, ankle bells, train whistles, and many more.

We also love how there is a song for almost everything! When we are in the grocery, we sing about apples and bananas. When we’re stuck in traffic and it starts to rain, we sing about the windshield wipers. We have songs that encourage saying ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you.’ We can go on and on.

The songs and instruments are among the materials we receive as part of Kindermusik@Home. The Kindermusik@Home online portal is a treasure trove of activities, resources, and parenting and teaching techniques that allow us to mirror the things we do in school, so we can benefit from the Kindermusik curriculum every day, beyond the one hour we spend with there each week.

Is there any area of your experience where you’d like to see an improvement?

I wish there can also be some Filipino songs or concepts incorporated in the lessons to foster our children’s love for our country. Hopefully, this can be added soon!

Would you recommend it to your friends?

Most definitely! I invite my friends all the time!
