It is no secret that moms have a lot on their minds at all times. Many a meme has been created on how moms have to multi-think while they multi-task, and it leads to the ever famous mom brain. That’s why it is important for moms to be able to recognise this, to stop, reflect, and learn how to mind their minds.
#MindYourMind is the campaign and hashtag of Mommy Mundo this 2021. It hopes to empower moms to take control of three large aspects of their minds: the mind-emotion link, which will help them become aware of the connections between their thoughts and emotions, make them aware that they can pause and be a witness to their thoughts, and allow them to acknowledge these thoughts without judgement or adding energy to them; learning and knowledge, which will help moms process their thought patterns so they may use the power of their minds to manifest their goals and dreams; and presence, which will encourage moms to practice minding their minds so that they can be reminded that living in the now is an important aspect of a healthy mind, leading to a happy life.
“We really need to be proactive in minding our minds, and if we care to know how it works it can really be powerful for us,” says Mommy Mundo’s Community Program Director, Kit Malvar Llamas.
The campaign encourages moms to practice curiosity with no judgement. It makes space for moms to be compassionate and gentle with themselves and with others every moment, driven by the firm belief that being fully present can foster deeper connections and growth. The campaign hopes to empower moms to change their narratives, to not be a slave to thoughts, and instead to learn how to deliberately introduce mindful and powerful thoughts, and as a result: live and think deliberately.
“The brain is divided into three parts,” shares Jeannie Castillo a certified Neuromovement expert. “The survival brain, the emotional brain, and the thinking brain.” Recognising the function or roles of each of these parts can help mothers mind their minds and take control of their thoughts and thought patterns.
All moms can begin minding their minds right away by practicing the three Ps mentioned above. The more they are aware of their thoughts and become intentional in their thinking, the more consciously they can live. This is especially powerful when it comes to dealing with negative feelings (such as worry, hurt, guilt, and shame–feelings all very familiar for moms) or difficult situations.
“I realised how important it is to be aware of our thoughts, how emotions play a role, and how those thoughts lead us to develop ways of thinking,” shares Mommy Mundo founder, Janice Villanueva. “So we are inviting everyone, moms and dads, to practice minding their minds with us for the rest of 2021. We’d love for everyone to join us!”
