Every year, our country is hit by one storm after another, rendering many of our countrymen homeless. Every year too, we make donations in cash and in kind, hoping we could provide some form of comfort and relief, however temporarily, to those unfortunate enough to have been struck by disaster.

Electrolux, a global leader in home appliances, has consistently been at the heart of these efforts, collecting and laundering clothes for calamity-stricken survivors for several years now. The seemingly simple step of washing clothes makes a world of difference. By giving preloved clothes a good wash, those who receive them feel more cared for. After all, who wouldn’t want to wear freshly laundered clothes?

This year, Electrolux takes their annual clothes donation drive up a notch. More than collecting and washing preloved clothes, they will be upcycling unusable pieces into something extra special. Together with the folks over at Gawad Kalinga’s Trese community, Electrolux will transform unusable donated clothes into beautiful quilts for newborn babies from orphanages and other communities.

“Electrolux believes that there must be dignity in the clothes that we donate. To make sure that every piece of clothing is in good condition, we will sort the worn out, unwearable ones, then upcycle them into quilts with the help of Trese,” says Andrea Pionilla, Electrolux Marketing Manager. “With this partnership, we aim not only to give quilts to children and newborn babies but also provide another source of livelihood for this Payatas community.”

This new twist to Electrolux’s advocacy aims to show that sharing goes beyond donating clothes. Pionilla adds, “Through Delightful-E Simple, we hope to mark the difference between giving and sharing. For when we share, we freely impart a piece of ourselves—our time, effort, and concern. Hence, we are able to give more.”
