Hello Mommy Mundo Community!
We are in the final stretch of our Mind Your Mind year here at Mommy Mundo. Thank you so much for journeying with us. I’m happy to share September’s theme with you – Education! We will tackle the many aspects of education, most especially our new roles of being home facilitators of our children’s online distance learning experience.
When the pandemic started, school transitioned to online learning. Parents half-joked about how much they missed teachers and how each and every single one of them needed a salary raise ASAP! Whether parents chose to homeschool their child or opted for an online distance learning program, their role in their child’s education has never been more important. Mom, dad, teacher, tutor—parents are all these and more during this jump to digital schooling. t’s been more than a year of distance learning and we’ve somewhat settled into a routine where our kids continue learning despite the pandemic.
Mommy Mundo’s Into the Mom Mind Survey takes a look at how motherhood has adapted to this new normal.
Like true champs, moms found an opportunity during a crisis to find an alternative means of education that best fits their child’s learning profile. While traditional education is the preferred schooling type of many due to quality, location, familiarity, and cost (that’s 26% of surveyed moms), homeschooling is the next preferred at 24% due to pandemic restrictions. More moms also showed appreciation for the value that progressive education and special education bring to the learning table.
Homeroom is now the study desk, living room, or dining table. Moms have responded to home learning by being more hands-on with kids. The Into the Mom Mind Survey showed that more moms tutor their kids now (78%) than before the pandemic (66%). There is that realization that you don’t need to a PHD to teach your kids, you just need patience and a whole lot of love to make help in their intellectual formation, moral development, and social formation.
It turns out that despite set-backs, parents continue to keep their child’s education a top priority! But like all things, the harder the task, the greater the reward. And we’re seeing moms pushing through challenges to make sure they meet the physical, social, emotional, and academic needs of their children.
Despite challenges, Mommy Mundo strives to help parents to make meaningful moments while navigating the ins and outs of distance learning. Let’s talk about our ODL setups, home study tips, how to maintain harmony at home and everything else! We’re hear to remind each other that everything is a learning experience, everyone at home is learning and most importantly, don’t forget to breathe!
Happy home learning!
Warmly,
Janice
