When you’re in my armsAnd I feel you so close to me All my wildest dreams come true
I need no soft lights To enchant me If you’ll only grant me The right to hold you ever so tight And to feel in the night The nearness of you
This is how a breastfeeding mother feels as she cradles her babe in her arms. Nourishing her baby with her own milk is a blessing like no other. Breastfeeding not only contributes to the baby’s overall health and well-being, it is also a welcome grace to the family budget and a godsend to the environment. Breastfeeding also nurtures the bond between mother and child as well as the ties which bind a family together.
The nearness between mother and child blooms and blossoms to include all those around them – the father who helps mom get through the night, the kids who keep quiet when baby’s being fed, the titos and titas and lolos and lolas who lend much-needed assistance, the friends who cheer them on, and the various support groups that provide valuable resources.
It is this nurturing sense of community that Mommy Mundo honors and celebrates with “The Nearness of We: A Breastfeeding Exhibit by Stanley Ong.”
Stan perfectly captures the warmth and joy of breastfeeding in 13 enchanting portraits featuring 13 modern Filipinas including Eizza Lim de Baron, Kaity Bato, Ani de Leon Brown, Jaya Crisostomo, Paula Peralejo Fernandez, Ruth Galang, Alexa Gutierrez, Janice Lizardo, Rima Ostwani, Em Sulit, Thammie Sy, Iya Villania, and Charissa Villanueva.
