We often hear our fellow moms say that they don’t have time to work out, much less go to the gym. But as these ‘fitspirational’ moms would attest, it’s totally possible to stay in shape even if we’re at home. Below are some tips to kickstart your fitness routine.
NICOLE WUTHRICH-DE LA CRUZ
@nicolewdelacruz
Event organizer, entrepreneur, and mom of 2 toddlers and 1 baby
“Staying in shape for me means being healthy, staying strong, and being fit mentally and physically. I do this by maintaining a sustainable healthy diet, working out, and being involved in sports.”
For Nicole, staying active has always been second nature. At a very young age, she was already used to training early and getting ready for competitions in different sports.
“It’s already part of who I am, and I make sure to incorporate it into my daily activities.”
It’s not uncommon for Nicole to get in a good sweat session early in the morning for her much-needed mood boost. Ticking off a fitness goal each day gives her a sense of fulfillment, and in turn, becomes her best motivator to get in shape. Not only does it help her mentally, as a good outlet for daily responsibilities, it also clears her mind.
“I’m so lucky that I was able to set up a climbing wall, bars, and gym in our garage pre-pandemic. I only added a stationary bike, so that I can join spinning classes too. I like having options.”

KAYCEE ENERVA
@themachomom
A writer and a proud solo parent
“Staying in shape means staying strong, and having the energy to do the things I need to do.”
Kaycee is no stranger to physical activities. For eight years now, she has been actively finding time for her health and wellness, exploring workouts that require minimal equipment such as Zumba, Pilates, and yoga. A frequent Reddit forum reader, Kaycee would also take the time to research efficient bodyweight workout routines that she could do in the comfort of her own home.
When she’s not breaking a sweat doing hip thrusts and squats, she finds herself lifting weights.
“I have bodyweight strength training workouts that I used to follow. But eventually, I built my home gym because gyms were closed for a long time during the pandemic.”
She welcomed the learning curve that came with setting up her own workout space and now enjoys simple compound lifts that are efficient in building muscle.
“I love it so much. It not only keeps me strong but also keeps me sane, because of the endorphins it gives with each workout session.”

APRIL PERRERAS
@briesmum
Stay-at-home mom of two girls ages 9 and 4
“Staying in shape is important for me so I can keep up with my kids, be able to do chores at ease, and grow old healthy and strong. I want to remain fit and continue living an active lifestyle to keep me feeling and looking young inside and out.”
April restarted her fitness journey in 2018 when she was 8 months post-partum from her second child. She approached it headstrong by purchasing an online app fitness course and enrolling in a nearby gym. She has been doing strength training since then.
“I wanted to be active again, like how I was a gym rat during my single days, so I decided to commit.”
These days, April shares weighted dumbbell plates and short bars with her husband in the living room, which she converted into a home gym. She follows jump rope workouts three times a week, aside from her usual barbell, Bosu ball, and resistance band exercises.
The Fit Moms Project PH community keeps her motivated. Meeting friends over Zoom and joining fitness activities have made getting in shape a lot more fun for her.
“I’ve come a long way since then, and until today, just working out at home, I’m still enrolled in my trainer’s workout plans. It has helped me a lot in terms of strength and form, and I could say I am at my fittest at the age of 39.”
