The recent visit of Muji’s Art Director and Advisory Member Kenya Hara in the Philippines was warmly welcomed with much anticipation from fans of the brand and design enthusiasts. He is also a world renowned Japanese Graphic Designer and Curator.
During his stay in Manila, he held a design talk at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium of De La Salle University, Manila, which was entitled “EMPTINESS – The Design Philosophy of MUJI.”
Attended by Advertising, Art, Communication, and Marketing students of the university and other institutions, the talk centered in on the brand’s history and concept which is greatly influenced by the simplicity of Japanese design. Mujirushi Ryohin, MUJI for short, is known as a “no brand” company that offers simple yet quality everyday products. With the simplicity of its products, Kenya Hara explains how the philosophy of “emptiness” has inspired MUJI’s design which is loved around the world today.
