Nothing is as heartbreaking as the sight of children, dirty and disheveled, roaming the streets, searching for food and shelter. Whether abandoned, neglected, or part of a community of people living off the streets, these children need assistance. While most of us are only too willing to help in any way we can, we just don’t know how to do so.
It is with this objective that Mommy Mundo has partnered with Childhope Asia Philippines. A non-profit, non-government organization working to promote the welfare of street children, Childhope Asia Philippines’ main program is the Outreach and Protection/Education on the Streets. By providing counseling and non-formal education among street children, the program brings a ray of hope to street children who have found themselves in woefully dire circumstances. The kids are not only given access to basic social services, they are also given values education, financial education, and vocational skills training, among others.
Childhope Asia Philippines makes use of the Mobile Education Van (MEV) to provide opportunities for street kids to learn in a creative and interactive way and the Mobile Health Clinic (MHC) to offer medical services on the streets in the poorest areas of Manila.
Through their various initiatives, about 955 street children have attended sessions in Basic Literacy, some of whom have taken the Accreditation and Equivalency Program of the Department of Education. Some have gone back to formal school while others have taken up vocational skills training. The MHC Project, meanwhile, has served some 3,000 street children and treated about 13,000 medical cases since it started in 2006.
Mommy Mundo hopes to make a difference in the lives of street children by choosing Childhope Asia Philippines as its MomShare beneficiary for 2015. In this regard, one hundred percent of registration fees for all Mommy Mundo expos will go to Childhope Asia Philippines as well as to other Mommy Mundo projects for the organization. Mommy Mundo will accept donations of clothes, books, and toys anytime of the year for Childhope Asia Philippines. You may bring them to our office on the second floor of The Fun Ranch in Frontera Verde, Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City, from Monday to Friday, 9AM to 6PM.
If your child wants to spend his birthday in a more meaningful way, Childhope offers birthday party programs with the Childhope kids. If you have other ideas about how we can better help the organization, do contact us. Your ideas are most welcome.
