Chrina Cuna-Henson, a mom to one and expecting her second, sees the beauty in brokenness, hope in every failure, and has a big heart to love others.
When she and her husband were newly married, they went through the long and painful journey of trying to conceive a baby. Sadly, they weren’t successful. This tested their patience and their marriage countless times. Even their faith was put through fire. But the couple didn’t want to lose the battle. In 2017, they took a leap of faith by deciding to explore the option of adoption.
Her baby Chloe was definitely a blessing and a life-changer. She said that God prepared them for this. After holding her daughter for the first time, her heart grew even more that she, with her husband, started a foundation called ROHEI, a non-profit organization that advocates for adoption and helps parents find their own adopted angels.
“The ROHEI Foundation is a non-profit organization that advocates for adoption. We believe that adoption was God’s idea and it is His desire for orphans to be adopted into families. Our response is to develop programs that provide holistic care for pregnant women in crisis, to rescue babies before they are abandoned and disowned, and to guide families in their adoption journey.”
PASSING ON Building a Family through Adoption
Chrina believes that family, through adoption, is the answer to the countless problems our country faces when it comes to children being used in human trafficking, online sexual exploitation, and hard labor, to name a few. All these stem from poverty, which pushes some mothers to sell or give away their children. Hence, she wants to pass on the value of adoption.
“As a woman whose journey to motherhood has had a few twists and turns, I’m often compelled to share how the pain and grief of losing my first child prepared me for the rescuing of my second. Through my story and my work with the ROHEI Foundation, I hope to pass on the joys of building a family through adoption and to help create a culture and community where adopted children are celebrated!
There are an estimated 1.8M orphans in the Philippines and less than 1% get adopted into families. The rest are stuck in orphanages, trafficked, or end up back on the streets without ever knowing the love of a family. My heart is that moms (and all those who desire to be one) would consider adoption as a beautiful way to build their family.”
