Many say that motherhood has a lot do with instincts. It is believed that when a woman becomes a mom, she will know exactly what to do. This may all be well and true but a dose of good old fashioned learning could go a long way, too! Mommy Mundo’s newest learning module for expectant parents as well as new mommies and daddies, Baby Love is an infant care workshop facilitated by experts. It hopes to steer parents towards the right information so that they can give their babies the best start in life.
Dr. Jamie Isip Cumpas, pediatrician and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, started the workshop by sharing advice and insights on breastfeeding.
A member of the Mommy Mundo Board of Experts, Dr. Jamie emphasized why breast milk is best for babies. Not only does it contain the right amount of protein, vitamins, and nutrients necessary for baby’s growth and development, it is also easily digestible. Feeding baby breast milk not only decreases his risk for ear and respiratory infections, it also lowers his chances of incurring gastroenteritis and heart disease.
Breastfeeding offers a load of benefits to mom as well, says Dr. Jamie. Not only does it save her time and energy, it can also decrease bleeding after pregnancy and lower her risk for breast and ovarian cancer. Breastfeeding is also a great way to bond with baby. It helps moms lose weight, too.
Breastfeeding is also good for dads. With baby less prone to sickness and infection, he and mom will be able to save money which could have gone to doctor’s fees and medication. Indeed, parents can save up to P21,000 to P25,000 in six months if they forego milk formula, which costs some P500 per 500 grams, says Dr. Jamie.
Baby Love, which took place at Aracama-Bonifacio Global City, was presented by Belo Baby and supported by Pampers and Mommy Treats.
