In the first quarter of 2021, Mommy Mundo, with the help of Good Thinking, conducted a survey for and among Filipino moms. Answered by 1,700 moms from all over the country, the first-of-its-kind survey revealed different facets, aspects, and the psyche of the modern Filipino mother. Survey results showed that Filipino moms are very involved with their children and tend to have a progressive mindset.
Keeping July’s theme in mind, we look at 5 statistics that can give insight into Filipino moms and their immediate or direct relationships.
-
97% of moms list their relationship with their kids as most important. This is followed by the relationship with their husband.
Perhaps this isn’t just reserved for Filipino moms, but one thing the survey showed is that once a mother, truly a mother. Filipino moms, especially new moms and moms of young children, view their relationship with their kids as #1. Not to say that other relationships are ignored. Filipino moms find time to give their husband almost as much nurturing attention as their children.
-
73% of moms look online to help them make decisions for their children or the home. Online sources are the largest decision-making contributor among Filipino moms.
Like all moms, Filipino moms want to make the right decisions and they try to make sure that those decisions are well-informed. Perhaps also reflective of a need for community, 54% of Filipino moms look towards their online communities to help make their decisions or to crowdsource data. Ultimately, after all the data gathering (community, friends, and family), it is still online sources that are relied on most.
-
85% of moms prefer bonding with their kids through mental activities, such as reading books and playing board games.
Spending time with their children is very important to Filipino moms. There are plenty of bonding activities and possibilities for bonding, but as a testament to how moms enjoy hitting two birds with one stone and how they care for their child’s development, mental activities take precedence over all other bonding activities. Not to say that Filipino moms can’t cut a little looser too, the survey also showed that 77% of moms consider digital activities, such as watching movies or playing video games, as a form of bonding!
-
95% of moms take on the job of teaching their kids values.
Most Filipino moms share the job of values education with their spouse, with only 5% that feel they are not involved in the values formation of their children. Among the top values being taught are: discipline to follow their interests in a moral way, courage to pursue their interests, and a sense of fun that will allow them to enjoy their childhoods.
-
88% of moms consider sleeping or naps as a method of self-care.
Moms are busy, and because moms are busy, moms are tired. They are tired on many levels–physically and emotionally. Juggling all of their responsibilities, exhaustion is something they are not strangers towards. As a way to care for themselves and to fill their own cup or maintain a healthy relationship with themselves, Filipino moms SLEEP!
