Oh the holidays! It’s the time for gift giving, merry making, and stressing… A LOT! Moms take the brunt of holiday stress. Between (often) still working full time, worrying about (and deciding on) gifts, setting up or decorating the house so it looks festive, then choosing and cooking a menu for the family get together, it isn’t a wonder that many moms tend to dread the holidays instead of being excited.
Well, mom, worry no more. This 2021, as things slowly open up and many are planning actual holiday get-togethers, we’ve come up with five mom hacks for you!
-
Take advantage of online gifts (buy extras!)
Online shopping is your friend this time of year. And by this time, you’re probably extremely savvy at it. Give yourself a budget for each person, stick to the budget, and do all your shopping in one night.
Not sure what to give someone? Water bottles and tumblers are an easy, useful, and usually always welcome present. Other easy go-tos include scented candles and soap! Don’t overthink it!
AND, buy one or two extra gifts for those last minute additions!
-
Team up for teacher gifts
Many moms wonder what to give their children’s teachers for the holidays. Make things cheaper and easier to think of by teaming up with the other moms in your class! A gift basket from everyone is usually welcome, and if all else fails you can’t go wrong with chocolate!
-
Invest in scented candles
Don’t have time to go all out with your decorations? Don’t sweat it! Invest in some scented candles with welcoming scents, like vanilla and cinnamon. Remember that scent is a powerful thing! So with minimal décor and the right scents, you can transform your home into one that is holiday ready!
Not only will they make your house smell and feel like the holidays, but you can use them all year round for your own enjoyment.
-
Play to your culinary strengths
While people love seeing beautiful dishes, they enjoy eating delicious dishes even more. Instead of trying to think of what you can serve that’s new and festive, play to your culinary strengths and make what you’re best at! Dress it up in the right serving dish (a red and white bowl or a red and green platter are good examples) and you’re good to go for a holiday feast!
-
Have pre-set lines in your head for those annoying questions
Let’s face it, one of the most stressful things about the holidays are those questions we get from our relatives. They mean well, but… well, we could do without some of the comments! Instagram has some great witty comebacks, and our Community Program Director is also hosting a class on what to say! Memorize a few quick one liners before the parties begin, and you’re fully armed!
