Mommy Mundo’s brand has always been centred around five pillars, those of healthy pregnancy, breastfeeding, active parenting, self-care, and mompreneurship. Every year, at ExpoMom, these pillars are highlighted through the various talks and activities held during the event. At ExpoMom 2020, the first online take of the company’s flagship event, the topic of healthy pregnancy and mindfulness was co-presented by long-time Mommy Mundo supporter, Baby Dove.
Titled: Expecting in the Unxpected and Practicing Mindfulness During Pregnancy, veteran Mommy Mundo speakers, Rome Kanapi and Martine de Luna, took the audience through some of their tips and tricks for being pregnant at this present time or through any trying time. These included:
Rome Kanapi, a pregnancy and infant massage expert, went through some of the basics of pregnancy and the pregnancy journey. These include staying in contact with your doctor so as to get the essential tips and needs during your various trimesters, eating properly and drinking 10-12 glasses of water a day, limiting the salty and sweet food intake, and exercising by preparing your inner thighs (squats), lower back (pelvic rocks), and hips (frequent walking). She then went on to discuss a variety of rituals, habits, and other healthy practices expectant mothers should be doing, pandemic or no pandemic!
Martine de Luna, a woman’s coach and work-at-home-mom community leader, discussed the attitude that expectant mothers should try to have during their pregnancy. Gratitude was her first important piece of advice. By practicing gratitude, mothers can increase their emotional health, which helps the baby in terms of brain development. This simple practice can help mothers and fathers that are pregnant during this trying time, especially since the pandemic has posed more emotional challenges. One concrete example is that spouses are not allowed to enter hospitals or clinics for check-ups, and that can greatly stress mothers in that they feel alone.
Both speakers encouraged moms to tap into their inner wisdom, and to find sources of support. As Baby Dove has always advocated: real moms support one another, and there, perhaps, was no better event in the country that highlights this support than ExpoMom.
ExpoMom 2020, Mommy Mundo’s annual conference was held on August 29-30, 2020 as an online event on Facebook Live. The international audience, composed of parents and speakers from Manila, the United States, France, and Canada, just to name a few.
