The past four months have seen everyone at home. Routines have been disrupted and new ones put in place; socialization has been kept to a minimum and—in many cases—the internet has taken its place. The dangers of having extended screen time has been well documented by psychologists and early childhood development experts, with a variety of negative effects on toddlers, children, and teens. One affected area is self-esteem.
Social media, by its nature, encourages people to compare themselves to others, making some feel inadequate to the many unrealistic pictures posted online. This is why Mommy Mundo has once again teamed up with Dove for its Self-Esteem Project at Home. A continuing partnership that started in 2017 with the Confident Girl forum, this new program consists of episodes hosted by UK based body positivist and author of bestselling book Body Positive Power, Megan Crabbe.
“I have partnered with Dove on this series, because as the largest global provider of self-esteem education, they have decided to take their classes from the classroom, into people’s homes, while we are all staying at home more,” says Crabbe in one of the online classes.
With the world facing an unprecedented crisis, kids will be spending more of their time at home and online. Dove’s #SelfEsteemAtHome program is one of the brand’s platforms to support self-esteem and well-being of children despite the absence of an on-site school workshop.
“They (Dove) have already educated over 60 million people worldwide on self-esteem, and I don’t know any other brands who do that much work behind the scenes so I’m very proud to be partnering with them on this and bring in some resources to parents, guardians, caregivers, young people, anyone who maybe just needs a bit of a boost,” adds the social media star also popularly known through her Instagram handle @BodyPosiPanda.
The series of classes comprising three episodes were written by body image experts and have been proven to create a positive impact on children’s well-being.
Each class will provide educational and creative ways to help young people feel confident in their own skin. The sessions will offer kids and viewers a variety of topics such as simple ways on how to be happier at home, tips on using social media in positive ways, and a string of advice on how to build body confidence.
According to Mommy Mundo Founder & CEO Janice Villanueva, the program is an excellent resource for moms looking to provide their young ones with an enriching online learning experience that will aid in their mental and emotional well-being. She cites the importance of their partnership with Dove as key to being able to provide moms with additional content that are effective and valuable during these challenging times.
“We are so happy to once again partner with Dove in promoting self-esteem in young girls. We were a proud partner when Dove launched their campaign to provide moms with the Uniquely Me module to start the conversation on issues surrounding self-esteem in their daughters. This time Dove once again steps up to this endeavor by utilizing YouTube as a platform. We thank Dove for this initiative that has helped so many moms and daughters grow together in confidence, and thank you for choosing Mommy Mundo again as your partner,” shares Villanueva.
The Dove Self-Esteem Project has been helping parents, mentors, teachers, and youth leaders deliver self-esteem education for over 15 years. Now designed for home learning with #SelfEsteemAtHome, the program aims to provide entertaining lessons for young people and make available tools to support said learning most especially during this time when children are spending most days at home. It has partnered with leading experts in the fields of psychology, health, and body image to create a program of evidence-based resources.
