It’s love month! And while some might think that Valentine’s Day is arbitrary, much like date nights, setting aside a day to pamper, spoil, and appreciate your significant other is one of the best and easiest ways to keeping a healthy relationship and healthy spirit. In the case of parents, a healthy mom too!
Often, parents to infants and young children have difficulties finding the time for dates between work and all the baby duties. It is during these busy and stressful moments that they should be done all the more! An act of self-care, getting romantic with your partner this Valentine’s Day, should be a priority, which is why MommyMundo put together these easy tips!
Tip #1: Get a babysitter
The easiest solution is to–of course–get a babysitter. Asking someone to watch the baby while getting a few quiet hours with your partner is the no brainer. The question comes down to who! It can be nerve wracking to trust someone with your baby, but often if you stick to responsible family members–perhaps those who have had a baby or two themselves–you should be able to enjoy the night out.
Be sure to leave breastmilk or formula, extra clothes, extra diapers, and a familiar toy or two!
Tip #2: Do it anyway
Say you can’t find a babysitter, do it anyway! Buy the flowers, buy the chocolate, dress up, make a fancy dinner at home. Even if there will be interruptions, maybe some spit up on your new dress, the act of getting ready for each other and spending time together can make a world of difference.
Tip #3: Wait for the baby to sleep
Again, if no sitter is around, waiting for the baby to sleep is another easy solution. Is your baby still waking up every few hours? Find romantic activities at home, like dancing together or snuggling up to watch (or not watch!) a movie are some simple ways to keep those romantic fires burning.
Getting in a few moments together is better than doing nothing. Simple reminders of love really does lead to a healthy spirit and a happier relationship, which leads to happier parents–something your babies need!
