What is self-love? There are many ways to define it. But a clear definition for one’s self is one of the most important tools any person can have in their arsenal. It is a skill that is especially important to hone before delivering your children. By establishing self-love and self-care routines early, new parents can be sure that their own love and care tanks are easily and periodically refilled even when the parenting gets tough.
Dr. Lia Bernardo, known as “The Happiness Doctor” is one of the country’s leading experts on personal development and well-being. All her teachings are centerd on on self-love and personal empowerment, which focus on changing limiting beliefs, perceptions, and the integration of purpose into one’s everyday life. She is also a the founding partner of Atma Prema Wellbeing Group Inc., which specializes in Corporate Wellbeing Programs for burnout and anxiety prevention, value formation, and life purpose.
Teaming up with Mommy Mundo, Dr. Lia gave a special talk just for expecting moms and dads, helping them get ready for their new role. She talked about the importance of nurturing one’s self as early as now, well before the baby comes (and maybe well before even the baby is conceived). When parents are filled with self-love, they will be better able to meet the challenges that come with becoming parents, making it easier to surf the waves of the, sometimes, overwhelming experience of being responsible for another new life.
During the one-hour session, she went through the five pillars of self-nurturing, namely: Nourish, Curate, Liberate, Allow, and Honor. Dr. Lia explained how each one is vital to honouring one’s self and honouring each of our experiences. She also explained how self-care is always a priority—always—even when there is a little baby in your lives. It is very easy for new parents to get swept away in their little one, but sometimes that leads to more stress than they realise and can handle. Self-care and self-love can come in to relieve that stress and also make them better parents.
Sponsored by Baby Dove and in collaboration with Lil Twinkies, the FB Live event was well attended and likely to have a second run in Mommy Mundo’s event roster.
