For many moms pregnancy is a time of relaxation and self-care. After all, they’re growing a brand new tiny human inside them! Unfortunately for many moms though, taking it easy can lead to loss of muscle mass and unwanted fat. While pregnant women are indeed supposed to gain weight, anywhere between 25 to 35 lbs if you are of normal weight, too much weight gain can lead to problems during pregnancy or after delivery.
To help moms better understand their bodies during one of the most beautiful and transformative processes it undergoes, Baby Dove, together with Katrina Sotto, a prenatal and postpartum yoga instructor, took to Mommy Mundo’s FB Live platform on October 3, 2020 to discuss fitness during pregnancy. The session was hosted by Lesley Lina, and sponsored by Waltermart, who gave away free gift certificates to moms that participated in the online game.
Katrina, who is a mom of three, talked about some of the common pregnancy symptoms and the challenges that come with these. Moms know all too well that sometimes these are the very symptoms that keep them from working out and/or staying fit. But with a little bit of understanding of what’s happening with the body, a little bit of discipline, and some motivation, just about any mom can keep themselves fit and healthy during pregnancy.
During the session, Katrina discussed the three different trimesters, and what moms can expect of and from their bodies. This gives moms realistic expectations on how fit they can be and what exercises they can do. Yoga has many benefits for pregnant women because it stretches and strengthens the body, while many poses open up the pelvis and prepare the hips for the process of childbirth. An added benefit is the meditative aspect of yoga, which can really help calm and mentally prepare mothers for the journey they are on, and for the journey ahead–after the baby is born.
Well received and attended by over 1,000 moms, the Pregnancy Fitness class is likely to be the first of many for Mommy Mundo. For more information on seminars and classes like these, follow Mommy Mundo on Facebook and Instagram, and sign up for the newsletter to receive email alerts.
