Exercising during pregnancy can help women alleviate some common pregnancy symptoms such as constipation, swelling, bloating, and (later on) backaches. It can help sleep cycles, prevent women from gaining too much weight, prepare the pelvis for delivery, lower risk of both gestational diabetes and C-section, potentially shorter labour, and more.

Minimising Stretch Marks 101
Stretch marks can occur at any time in a person’s life. These indented streaks of skin can appear in any part of the body, although most commonly on the belly, the breasts, the hips, and butt. Often they are a result of weight gain or certain types of physical activity that strain and stretch the skin. They do not cause any long term pain, neither are they painful when they occur. Stretch marks also do not harm the skin in any way.

Four Signs You’ve Started Nesting
Nesting is one of those hard to scientifically prove yet frequently documented phenomena of the human world. In animals it is much easier to spot. We see dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds (hence the name nesting) preparing for the arrival of their young. Rituals are followed and changes are made. Among humans, something similar happens to many mothers. As the baby’s due date approaches, many mothers begin nesting, whether they realise it or not.
Premature Labour 101
Most, approximately 90% of expecting mothers, will carry their babies to term. “To term” means 37 weeks of pregnancy onwards. Around 10% of women may go into labour before 37 weeks. This is called premature labour or preterm labour, and it is aptly defined as when your body gets ready to give birth to early or goes into labour more than three weeks before your due date.
The Role of Your Nutrition Pre-Pregnancy
Usually women begin caring about their health and nutrition–the food and nutrients taken in by the body—once they discover that they are pregnant. Ideally, however, for women trying to conceive, looking into health and nutrition even before pregnancy is an important first step often overlooked. The more prepared a woman is in terms of her health and nutrition, the better her chances of conception and the better the chances she will have a healthy pregnancy.
Do Lamaze Classes Help?
The greatest benefit of Lamaze classes is the confidence it gives women in the face of labour. This can be especially useful and important for first time moms who are worried and are unsure about what to expect. Lamaze, often mistaken to be a breathing technique, is all about pain management and how to respond to pain. An additional benefit to classes is that it unites the soon-to-be-parents. When both partners take the class together, it is a method of preparation they can do together and help each other become sources of support before, during, and after the birth process.
